The challenge for [the CEO] has been to ask and answer: “Who am I, what is my place, and how do I fit in this organization? Even though I may be the CEO, it is clear that the organization has grown and my role has changed. How do I and our Chair (and my partner here,) find that sweet spot where my passion unites with my skill and with the engine that drives results and success? How can I find the courage to honestly say what I’m most scared of saying? How can I allow myself to feel these feelings of inadequacy? Where is my voice, and can I find it to express the truth that lives deep within?” With openness and transparent vulnerability, these two have moved step by step toward an incredibly honest appraisal of themselves, each other, and the organization. Using the model from Good to Great by Jim Collins as a roadmap, we have systematically asked and re-asked key questions. New and deeper understandings have been gained. Painful, but truthful, observations have been made. And out of it has emerged the beginnings of a new vision, creating a place for each and for all. Not yet resolving the very challenging issues of finances, re-direction, and inclusion of Board members, these two courageous leaders have pressed on to present you with this opportunity for joining them in the journey to becoming a great organization. |
